Peer Support Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect if I attend?
Facilitated peer support sessions are conducted through Zoom video calls with up to 4 participants per facilitator.

Will I be on with people from my work?
Ideally, the participants are different organizations across the country.  Our team will work to pair you with people outside your network whenever possible.

How many people on average?
Up to 4 participants per facilitator

How long is the session?
We are starting with a one hour format. This may increase if the number of participants increases or there is a need for longer sessions.

Does the facilitator have discussion questions?
There are no formal discussion questions. There is a format to the session which starts with collaborative agreements followed by small wins, then time for each participant to share and a closing. The facilitator is there to ensure the conversation stays constructive and to help the participants feel seen and heard using a trauma-informed framework.

How are the collaborative agreements?

One Mic, Active Listening, Assume positive intent and acknowledge impact, Anonymity, and Confidentiality. These will be reviewed in more details during the session.

What is a trauma informed framework?
Through trauma informed practices, participants will have the opportunity to reflect deeply on the impact of their work on their personal functioning and their own approaches to supporting themselves and others. This coaching technique teaches healthcare professionals the benefits of listening and being heard by others, which builds problem-solving skills as well as compassion and empathy, benefiting and improving all aspects of one’s life -- relationships, career, and well-being.

Do I have to share?
No. If you are not comfortable sharing and would prefer to listen, you are welcome to do so.

Is it confidential?
Yes. You can review our confidentiality policy in the Engagement Agreement here.

Is there a 1:1 option?
Yes. We can arrange a shorter 1:1 session, if requested.

What can I do to prepare for the session?
We encourage you to take the Dynamic Empowerment assessment here to evaluate your current level of stress and resilience.  This tool was developed in partnership between the Center for Cognitive Diversity and Lyrah.  It is free for personal use.
